Originally developed by Toll Brothers back in 2008, Oceans Edge features 40 fabulous waterfront condo residences, not to mention countless luxury lifestyle amenities that include everything from 24 hour door and concierge service to valet parking and guard-gated security. Most Oceans Edge condos for sale include ample living space, and in many instance, panoramic ocean and intracoastal views, which no doubt helps make this one of Singer Island’s most highly sought after condo buildings.
The oldest recorded settlement on Singer Island dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when fishermen and squatters (mainly from Riviera Beach and the Bahamas) came to take advantage of the Island’s proximity to the warm and fertile Gulf Stream. The island got its name from Paris Eugene Singer, a descendant of the sewing machine mogul who famously gave distinction to the charming Palm Beach we know today through an exclusive contract with architect Addison Mizner.
In 1940, the City of Riviera (later known as Riviera Beach) purchased 1,000 feet of beach on the Island for $40,000, which led to a growth in tourism and the eventual incorporation of the Island north of Palm Beach Shores. The Town of Palm Beach Shores was developed in 1947, when A. O. Edwards, a railroad and hotel tycoon, bought 240 acres on Singer Island for $240,000 and invested $500,000 in improvements, which included the development of the Colonnades. In 1952, Edwards became the first mayor of Singer Island. Upon his death in 1960, Edwards’ estate was sold to the distinguished entrepreneur John D. MacArthur, who became the largest landowner on the island.
MacArthur is responsible for having developed much of Singer Island, as well as for donating a large portion of his land for the creation of the MacArthur Beach State Park, which initially opened in 1989. As a result of the steady growth in popularity of Singer Island, Blue Herron bridge was built in order to facilitate more traffic to and from the Island than was previously possible on the former two-lane bridge.
